Are The SATs/ACTs Still Relevant?

Test Optional is NOT Test Blind

Many higher education institutions in the US are allowing students the option to apply without submitting SAT/ACT scores. It is important to note, however, that if a school is still accepting SAT/ACT scores, then students who don’t submit are at a disadvantage compared to those who do.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Merit-based scholarships usually consider SAT or ACT scores as a factor in determining awards, and test scores also make candidates more desirable to financial aid officers when determining the size of an aid package. This means that scoring well on the SATs or ACTs can result in thousands of dollars in additional funding.

College Awareness

When registering for the SATs or ACTs, students can elect to share their scores and information with colleges. This allows colleges to identify possible candidates before the application process and allows students the opportunity to look at the colleges that are contacting them to see if any are a good match.
